Are you living an “Aging” lifestyle?

Since the beginning of time, women have been concerned with their physical appearances. Bright eyes, smooth and wrinkle-free skin often come to mind when one relates to youthful skin.

Unfortunately, in our fast paced lifestyle, it is no wonder that people are looking more tired and worn down. The late nights and early mornings tend to take a toll on our body and mind. Throw in the stress of working life into the mix and it is a lethal concoction for the skin.

Here are some tips to change your lifestyle and embark on a time reversing journey to youthful skin!

1. Look FAT-bulous with healthy fats

Fats bears the greatest misconception of being bad for your health, and the sole cause of our tightening waistband. However, much to one’s disbelief, certain fats are essential for good health!

Some examples are extra virgin olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds. The consumption of these “good fats” help optimize metabolism, support positive mood and cognition. It also benefits the skin and eyes, helping you look younger.

2. Skip the Sugar, Sweetie

Sugar is a simple carbohydrate, which causes insulin levels to spike. This causes a burst of inflammation, which produces enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles.

3. Sleep is the real beauty secret

A clinical trial conducted by physician-scientists at University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center found that poor sleepers demonstrated increased signs of skin aging. The study showed that sleep deprived women showed signs of premature skin aging and a decrease in their skin’s ability to recover after sun exposure.

A SingHealth poll showed that 44% slept less than seven hours on weekday nights. The rate of 44% is higher than that in countries such as the United States where between 35 and 37 per cent slept less than seven hours daily.

Give yourself a good night’s sleep and see those fine lines fade!

4. Beauty from inside out

So if you eat healthy fats, reduce sugar intake, and get enough sleep, does that mean that your skin will automatically have the radiance and glow that everyone envies? Of course not. Your ability to absorb nutrients from food decreases as you age. So while growing children take multivitamins to support healthy growth, supplementation becomes equally as important for adults.
