Frequently Asked Questions About Body Waxing
Why is waxing better than shaving for long-term hair reduction?
Shaving only cuts hair at the surface, causing it to grow back quickly with a blunt, stubble-like texture. Waxing removes hair from the root, which means hair grows back finer and softer over time as the follicle progressively weakens with each session. Regular waxing also results in longer smooth periods between appointments — typically 4 to 6 weeks — compared to the 2 to 3 days of smoothness that shaving provides. Over time, many regular waxing customers notice permanently reduced hair density in treated areas.
What is Carragheen’s Superfood Waxing and what makes it different?
Our signature Superfood Wax is infused with natural antioxidants, vitamins, and soothing botanical extracts that nourish the skin while removing hair. Unlike standard waxes, it provides a gentle exfoliating and brightening effect, minimises post-wax redness, and leaves the skin hydrated rather than stripped. It is particularly well-suited to Singapore’s climate, where post-wax sensitivity can be heightened by heat and humidity. View all waxing services here.
How should I prepare my skin before a waxing appointment?
Exfoliate lightly 1 to 2 days before your session to remove dead skin cells and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. Ensure hair is at least 0.5 to 1 cm long for effective wax adhesion. Do not apply lotion, oil, or body creams on the day of your appointment. Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 24 hours beforehand. If you are using any active skincare such as retinoids, AHAs, or prescription acne creams, inform your therapist before the session as these can increase skin sensitivity.
What aftercare should I follow after waxing?
Avoid hot showers, saunas, swimming, and intense exercise for 24 hours to allow the skin to calm. Skip exfoliants and perfumed products for 2 to 3 days. Moisturise daily with a gentle, fragrance-free lotion. After 3 days, begin light exfoliation 2 to 3 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs. In Singapore’s heat, staying cool and wearing breathable, loose clothing on the day of waxing reduces post-treatment irritation.
Who should avoid waxing, and what are the contraindications?
Waxing should be avoided if you are taking Accutane, Retin-A, or steroid medications; if the area has sunburn, active eczema, psoriasis, open wounds, active acne, or infection; or if you have had recent laser treatments or chemical peels on the area. For men, we offer brow waxing only. Please disclose all medical conditions and medications during consultation so our therapists can ensure your safety and adapt the treatment appropriately.
